Our Neighbors on North Lake and the surrounding neighborhood:

Xiem is located in the North Lake District of Pasadena just south of Altadena.  We are pleased to recommend a selection of restaurants and Deli's in the area that you might not otherwise become acquainted with:

Big Mama's Rib Shack & Soulfood - located just a block south, Big Mama's is a sit-down restaurant with delicious food and a long Pasadena legacy.  Their barbeque is excellent but their sweet potatoe pie is worth the drive from just about anywhere.  Friendly service and reasonable prices.

Pasadena, CA 91104

Pinnochio's Pizza & Italian Restaurant - next door to Big Mama's.  Pinnochio's has been owned by the same family for over 15 years and several years ago, they bought the building where they have just now relocated to after spending two years remodeling.  The setting is nice sit-down and the food is good -- take out is available.  We expect they will shortly get their liquor license transferred. If you dine-in, make sure and spend a few minutes getting to know your hosts, they are delightful people and deserve our support.

Park Bench Deli - this is a couple of miles up North Lake in Altadena on the east side of Lake.  A good place to pick-up a sandwich and soup in an old style Diner/Deli complete with knotty wood paneling.  Friendly with reasonable prices.

Altadena, CA 91001

Roma Italian Deli & Grocery - a Pasadena treasure -- this little grocery is south of Lake on the east side of the street.  Check out the pictures and you will see it has been there for many, many years.  It is an east-coast style grocery with a counter-deli that makes great italian sandwiches.  They have an incredible selection of cheeses and olives and Rosario is more than glad to help you.  If you doubt our recommendation, just google this before you head our way and check out the reviews.  No website but lots of character and value.

Lebanese Kitchen -- The restaurant was opened 8 years ago by Michael Labbad, who, along with his wife works the kitchen. The sit-down area  is now overseen mostly by his two children, Tony and Violet.  The food is great and this is one of our favorite restaurants for eat-in or take-out.  Reasonable prices and very, very good food.

1384 Washington Boulevard (one mile east on Washington near Hill)

Pasadena, CA 91104

626-296-9010

Connal’s Burgers, Salads & Subs since 1958 -- a great burger place with excellent service and good food.  You won't find a McDonalds or a Burger King anywhere near Connal's for very good reason -- they could not compete.

1505 E. Washington Boulevard

Pasadena, CA 91104

626-794-5018

The Coffee Gallery Altadena - up Lake on the left side -- this eclectic place is worth a visit.  The coffee is acceptable, ice cream, baked goods, and lunch are often good but the atmosphere is remarkable.  They have live entertainment several evenings each week and you will always be able to find an interesting conversation partner and a good place to sit and read your favorite paper or magazine.

2029 North Lake Avenue

Altadena, CA 91001

Saladang Thai -- ok, not really our neighbor but we eat here so often they might just as well be.  We would really like them to open on North Lake.  Good food, reasonable prices, and a nice atmosphere.  Definitely worth your time when visiting Pasadena for dine-in or take out.  There sister restaurant, Saladang Song is next door so you have a choice of two excellent restaurants both with similar menus.
